China’s flag has five yellow stars on the red background. Its present design became the national flag in 1949. There are a few interpretations behind the symbolism of the modern China’s flag. According to Shaw in the book Flags (Running Press), the red of the flag is the traditional color of revolution; the large gold star represents "the Common Program of the Communist Party"; and the smaller gold stars represent the four classes united by the common program: the workers, the peasants, the bourgeois, and capitalists sympathetic to the Party. 5.5" length X 3.75" width.
