Noh originated in the 14th century as a form of entertainment at religious festivals. Noh is a classical Japanese performance which combines the element of dance, music and poetry into one highly aesthetic stage art. There are five categories of noh plays: gods, warriors, women, miscellaneous figures, and supernatural beings.
