Similar to both clogs and flip-flops, Geta are a well-known type of Japanese footwear. These sandals are made with an elevated wooden base, called a "Dai", and a cloth thong, known as a "Hanao". Many modern geta have incorporated rubber soles which softens the traditional "clacking" sound made by wooden geta, but it makes them safer and more durable.
